1. Made With Carefully Selected Natural Ingredients

One of the greatest things about handmade soap is the ability to carefully choose what goes into every bar.

Rather than starting with a ready-made cleansing base, cold-process soap can be created from plant oils and butters selected specifically for the qualities they bring to the finished soap.

At Floriane, we work with ingredients such as olive oil, coconut oil, sweet almond oil, castor oil, shea butter and mango butter, alongside botanicals, clays and pure essential oils.

Every ingredient has a reason for being there.

2. Naturally Contains Glycerin

Something wonderful happens during traditional soapmaking.

When oils react with sodium hydroxide through a process called saponification, they transform into soap and naturally occurring glycerin.

Glycerin is a humectant, meaning it attracts water and helps retain moisture.

In traditional cold-process soap, this naturally produced glycerin remains part of the finished bar, contributing to the characteristic feel and lather of handmade soap.

3. Plant Oils & Butters Create Beautifully Conditioning Bars

Different oils contribute different characteristics to soap.

Olive oil can contribute to a gentle, conditioning bar, while coconut oil helps create cleansing power and a bubbly lather.

Castor oil helps support a creamy, stable lather, while shea butter and mango butter contribute hardness and conditioning qualities.

Finding the right balance between these ingredients is part science, part craftsmanship — and one of our favourite parts of creating soap.

4. Pure Essential Oils Create Naturally Beautiful Aromas

Scent has the ability to completely transform an everyday shower.

Instead of synthetic fragrance oils, our scented soaps use carefully selected pure essential oils to create their aroma.

Bright sweet orange and bergamot, soft floral lavender and neroli, refreshing peppermint and eucalyptus, herbal rosemary, elegant rose and earthy frankincense can each give a soap an entirely different character.

Essential oils are powerful ingredients, however, and natural doesn't automatically mean irritation-free. That's why they should always be used thoughtfully and at appropriate concentrations.

For us, fragrance isn't about making a soap smell as strong as possible.

It's about creating a beautiful sensory experience.

5. Handmade Means Every Bar Is Unique

There's something special about using something that has actually been made by hand.

Our soaps aren't produced by the thousands on a continuous factory line. They are mixed, poured, cut and handled in small batches.

Natural variations in colour, texture and appearance can occur from one batch to another.

Your bar may not look absolutely identical to the one beside it — and that's part of what makes handmade soap beautiful.

6. Cold-Process Soap Embraces Slow Craftsmanship

Natural handmade soap can't be rushed.

After our soap is made and cut, each bar is left to cure for several weeks.

During curing, water gradually evaporates from the soap, helping it become harder and longer-lasting while allowing the bar to develop its finished characteristics.

In a world where almost everything is designed to be produced faster, we like doing things a little differently.

We give our soap the time it needs.

7. A Little Goes a Long Way

A well-made, properly cured cold-process soap is designed to become a firm, long-lasting bar.

During the curing process, water slowly evaporates from the soap, helping the bar become harder and last longer with use. When kept dry between washes on a well-draining soap dish, one bar can become a simple and practical part of your everyday routine.
